  • Description
  • Geographic Origin: Originates from Japan, it is a hybrid of the Sasa and Phyllostachys.
Adult size: 2 to 4 metres in height.
    Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Moist and deep. Does not like excessive chalk.
    Exposure: Partial shade.
    Climate: Drought resistant.
    Hardiness: -25°C.
Root development: Runner root system (spreading variety).

    Properties and uses:
The wide variegated leaves of the Sasa and the smooth fluted canes of the Phyllostachys are both found in this specimen. The leaves are rounded at the ends, they are luminous green in colour and irregularly dashed with creamy white. It has a less slender shape than the Phyllostachys, but more so than the Sasa. Its shape is quite open. It is at home planted in a pot or planter or in a hedge. It supports all soils and climates and is therefore one of the easiest varieties to grow.
The leaves are twice as long and wide on the current year's canes as they are on the canes of the prior year. This bamboo is very hardy and at home anywhere. They can also be found without the variegated leaves under the name of: Hibanobambusa tranquillans.
