The finely toothed leaves are shiny dark green on top and blue-green underneath. The branches are purplish in colour and grow well. The catkins appear very early before the leaves. This little tree is very decorative especially in the winter when the branches give lovely colour to the garden. This is a great plant for creating interesting screening and for limiting erosion. Usually planted alongside waterways, lakes and ponds this beautiful tree can be planted alone or in groups.
