  • Description
  • Early, fast-growing ancient variety.
The stem grows just above ground level, and the swollen part is round, compact and purple.
The flesh is white, tender with a delicate nutty flavour.
It is better eaten young when it has the size of an egg.

Type of soil: Rich, moist, and well-drained.
Sowing time: From March to July.
Harvest time: From June to October.
Site: Partial shade to full sun.

    Sowing technique:
    - Sow in rows ½ cm deep, in a cold frame or outdoor after the last frost.
    - Transplant 1 month after sowing, keeping seedlings 35/40 cm apart.
    - Protect from flea beetle when growing.

    Care:
    - Water frequently and add mulch.
    - Hoe and weed regularly.
    - Harvest when young, to avoid eating stringy flesh.
