Characteristics and uses:
The Trifoliate orange, also known as the Chinese bitter orange, is a fairly cold-hardy citrus, which is quite rare for this variety, and it tolerates temperatures down to -15°C. It is often grafted onto other citrus trees, and it produces a beautiful and fragrant white blossoming at the end of spring. The flowers are followed by lemon-like fruits, ripening to yellow in autumn. They can be eaten cooked in dishes or in marmalade.
Apart from its cold-hardiness and its use as a rootstock, this bush can be planted alone or in a hedge as it makes an excellent barrier due to its strong, sharp thorns. - Related Categories
