Characteristics and uses:
The Star Magnolia is a close relative to the Magnolia Kobus. Its blossom takes place at the end of winter and at the beginning of spring, before the appearance of the leaves. Its slightly fragranced white flowers have several, fine petals that give the impression that the tree is covered with white stars. The flowers can sometimes take on pink tints. This phenomenon can be explained by the temperatures and brightness before and during blossoming time. In the autumn, the leaves become yellow before falling and revealing a silvery-grey bark when the wood is old.
The Star Magnolia is sometimes considered as being an invasive plant. This risk is nevertheless limited under our latitudes as the seeds rarely reach maturity. - Photos (15)
