  • Area of origin: East of United States. Introduced into Europe in 1629.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 10 m, width up to 10 m (32,8').
    Foliage: Deciduous.
Soil Type: All except that which is too wet.
    Hardiness: Hardy to -28°C.
    Exposure: Full light.

    Properties and uses:
Very decorative with dark red fruits and red, orange and yellow autumn foliage.
The fruits stay on the tree a long time after the leaves have fallen.
This little tree is planted alone or in groups in parks and gardens where it brings a touch of originality. It is advisable not to plant too close to buildings as it produces many runners.
The species is dioecious, so it is necessary to have a plant of each gender for it to bear fruit.
The latex of Virginia Sumac is toxic and contact with the leaves and fruit can cause a skin reaction, be sure to wear gloves when handling it.
