Properties and uses:
Pineapple Sage (Salvia elegans) is an aromatic perennial considered a sub-shrub and renowned for its scented foliage and brilliant flowers.
The vibrant red, tubular flowers bloom from late summer to the first frost and are quite melliferous.
The leaves of the Pineapple Sage emit an intense pineapple aroma when crushed.
They make a flavourful addition to herbal teas and fruit desserts.

Pineapple Sage is not cold hardy but adapts well under mild climate, in light, well-drained soils and in sunny locations. Then, it may grow easily along meadows, in flowerbeds with other perennials or aromatic plants. It can also be planted in pots to protect it from frost.
