  • Description
  • Type of soil: Rich, light and deeply dug.
    Sowing time: March April May.
    Harvesting time: June July August.
    Site: Full sun.

    Planting directly in the ground:
    - Make 8 to 10cm deep furrows that are 60cm apart.
    - Plant a potato every 30 to 40cm making sure to have the shoots facing upwards. Cover them carefully using fine soil and water well.

    Care:
    - When the plants reach between 15 and 20cm in height earth up around the base of the plant: this involves piling up soil around the foot of the plant to create a mound, this will help any excess water drain away and encourage the formation of tubers and prevent them from turning green due to the light.
    - You can repeat this process throughout the growing period.
    - Weed between the rows and only water if it is needed.

Harvest when the weather is dry using a garden fork:
    - carefully lift up the plant so that you can reach the tubers which should then be left to dry in the sun for a day.
    - For new potatoes, harvest them before they reach maturity. These potatoes do not keep very long.
    - For potatoes that you intend to store, wait until the leaves start to shrivel up before harvesting. Only choose tubers that are healthy looking and not damaged these should be stored in a well-aired and dry location protected from the light.
