Geographical origins: Mountainous areas of Europe.
Adult dimensions: Height up to 15 m, width up to 10 m.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Any soil except chalky.
Hardiness: Hardy to -30°C.
Exposure: Full sun.
Properties and uses:
The mountain pine has an asymmetrical shape. Its bark is blackish brown and its needles are dark green in colour and tightly packed and upright. Its oval shaped cones are small in size (3 to 6cm) and have curved hooked scales. It is principally found in the mountainous regions of Europe (Pyrenees, Alps, Balkans ). Its wood used to be used for construction, as it was particularly resistant.
