Geographical origins: Alps between 1500m and 2500 m (1640 and 2734 yds).
Adult dimensions: Height up to 5 m, width up to 5 m (16,4').
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Any.
Hardiness: Hardy to -40°C.
Exposure: Full sun.
Properties and uses:
The spreading form, its adult height and its slow growth make this an ideal tree for small gardens and for rockeries and mixed beds. Bonsai enthusiasts make forests. This tree is also used in mountain regions in forestations for preventing avalanches. The needles come in pairs, they are much shorter than those of the variety mughus.
