Area of origin: British Columbia to the north of California. Introduced in 1823.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 2 m, width up to 2 m (6,6').
Foliage: Evergreen.
Soil Type: All. Avoid lime.
Hardiness: Hardy to -15°C.
Exposure: Semi-shade to full sun.
Properties and uses:
The bunches of golden yellow flowers appear in March and April. The blue-black fruits are very decorative. The shiny leaves resemble those of the holly and become reddish in winter. It responds well to cutting. This is a beautiful shrub to plant alone or within a mixed flowering hedge or flowerbed or even within a mixed group to create a screening hedge. - Related Categories
