There are about twenty species of oregano, some with an interest more ornamental than culinary. The Oregano is obviously grown in aromatic, scented gardens but also thrives in rockeries. You can also grow it in a pot, on your balcony. The shape 'Compactum' is denser than the common Oregano.
The Oregano stems are harvested from May to November, preferably in the morning. Dry them in the shade and keep them in an airtight container. Its beneficial effects can be enjoyed under different forms, as an essential oil or in bouquets of dried flowers.
