Area of origin : East of the United States. Introduced into Europe in 1786 by John Fraser.
Adult Dimensions : height up to 25 m (82'), width up to 15 m(49,2').
Foliage : Shiny dark green, yellow brown in Autumn.
Soil Type : Rich soil, but be careful in soils that are too clayey or too acid.
Hardiness : Hardy to -20°C.
Exposure : Full light.
Properties and uses:
Large shade tree with spreading branches and leaves that are like those of the laurel this tree is planted in the best positions in European parks. The leaves turn a beautiful copper colour in autumn and remain until March. In the United States the wood is used for making tiles and roofs and adorns parks.
