Properties and uses:
The American white Oak is found in its natural habitat, the humid, continental forests of northern America. It has a light grey, cracked bark and develops large, lateral branches when grown on its own. Its dark green foliage turns reddish-brown in the autumn.
In the Maryland, the oldest specimen was more than 450 years old before falling down during a violent storm. The white Oak is also the official tree of the Illinois state.
Planted on its own, in a park, the white Oak will be impressive. Avoid planting it near a building because of its strong roots.
