Properties and uses:
Ilex paraguariensis is a beautiful evergreen bush also known as Yerba Mate or Mate Tea. Once dried, the leaves are used to make a beverage called Mate which is widely consumed in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, and which contains caffeine and vitamins. The harvest generally takes place in spring, on adult 4-year-old plants. The Mate Tea needs planting in open ground or in a pot, in a sunny area protected from cold winds; make sure to use a winter protection in colder regions.
