Area of Origin: South Africa.
Foliage: Deciduous.
Soil type: Light and preferably dry.
Hardiness: Not hardy (lift the bulbs in winter).
Exposure: Full sun.
Characteristics and uses:
The double Freesias bear a multitude of small, varied colours flowers in July and August. They fill your garden with a fragrance reminiscent of Jasmine.
When the risk of frost has disappeared, plant the Freesias bulbs directly in the soil or in pots, in a mix of light compost and sand, 3 to 4 cm deep and spaced out approximately every 10cm. Freesias thrives in a rather dry soil and do not like humidity. Favour light and regular watering.
For a beautiful display, plant Freesias in groups of 30 bulbs.
You can also use Freesias’ flowers as cut flowers to fill your house with fragrance.
