Description
Area of origin: Himalayan forests, China, Japan.
Adult dimensions: Height: up to 3 meters, Spread: up to 2 meters.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: All types except chalky.
Hardiness: Frost hardy to -7°C.
Position: Semi-shade.

Properties and uses:
The Loropetalum is not a well-known shrub, but it deserves its place in all the gardens. It blossoms a first time in February-March, then again in summer and in autumn. It is covered with white,straps-shaped flowers, which have a dishevelled look. Its young foliage is coppery red at first, before turning dark green.
The Loropetalum is used in flowering beds but it can also be planted on its own and even in a container. Bonsai connoisseurs know how to get the best of the numerous assets that this magnificent shrub has.
It needs protecting from cold in winter, in the coldest areas. It is also necessary to find a site in partial shade in areas which have strong sunshine so as not to scorch its foliage in summer.
