Characteristics and uses:
The Dovyalis Caffra is a thorny Apple tree which produces small yellow apples at the end of summer. The Kei apples are juicy and slightly acid with a texture reminiscent of an apricot. They can be eaten fresh once ripe, or they can be made into jam and used in desserts. Apart from these culinary qualities, the Kei apple tree can be planted alone in cold regions, but then it needs to be protected in winter; it can be used in hedges such as low or defensive hedges, as well as in fruit or live hedges.
Plant them now: the shortest way to your plate is through your garden!
