Properties and uses:
The Ziziphus jujuba – commonly named Jujube or Chinese Jujube, even Chinese date – belongs to the buckthorn family; it is a thorny fruit tree which gives the famous 'Jujube' fruit. The Jujube fruit can be eaten fresh, dried, in juice or honey. This small oval, red-orange drupe has a sweet taste when mature. It also has a single kernel. Although it's been forgotten in the Western countries, it is widely grown in Asia and in the East where people eat it in many ways.
The light-yellow flowers appear in July and make way to the crunchy fruit in October. The Jujube is also a melliferous plant that can give honey – the Jujube Honey. The Jujube Honey produced in the Yemen mountains is highly appreciated and famous for its many benefits.
