Properties and uses:
The scarlet hazel tree is a large bushy shrub that is very ornate. Its beautiful foliage is deep scarlet during the spring becoming lighter in the summer. In winter, the long catkins remain on the bare branches. Whether planted alone or as part of a hedge you will not stop admiring it.
In August – September it produces large tasty hazel nuts. As it is not self-fertile, you will need to have another hazel tree nearby to ensure the production of nuts.
To keep it compact it needs to be pruned every two to three years.
Plant them now: the shortest way to your plate is through your garden!
