Properties and uses:
This tree is indispensable in country hedges and in windbreak hedges. It can also be planted alone. The fruits are mature in September and October. Productivity has been increased through the development of numerous cultivars ( Round nuts ‘Ronde du Piemont, long nuts ‘ Gunslebert or Cosford). France produces 1,800 tonnes whilst Italy produces 100,000 tonnes and Turkey 270,00 tonnes.

Hazel tree 'Fertile de Coultard': produces big, round, flavoursome fruits which reach maturity mid-September. This variety is vigorous and highly productive.
Hazel tree 'Fertile de Nottingham': produces medium sized, elongated fruits which reach maturity in September. Highly productive variety.
Hazel tree 'Géant de Halle': produces large, round fruits which reach maturity end of August. It tolerates shade.
Hazel tree 'Longue d'Espagne': produces big, long and sweet fruits which reach maturity mid-September. Productive variety.
Hazel tree 'Merveille de Bollwiller': produces large round fruits, sweet and with a nice flavour. It has a good yield and it is hardy to cold. The hazelnuts are ripe in September.
Hazel tree 'Webb's prize Cobb': Highly fruitful, its hazelnuts are big and delicious. They reach maturity in September.
