Remarkably cold hardy, Giant Winter Spinach is a high-yielding variety.
The large leaves are dark green.
Suited for Autumn/Winter harvests.
Type of soil: Loose, moist and humus rich.
Sowing time: From March to April, or from August to October for a winter harvest.
Harvest time: From October to June.
Site: Partial shade to full sun.
Sow directly into the ground:
- Sow in rows 1 cm deep and 20 cm apart.
- Keep the soil moist for the growth.
- Thin out 3 weeks after the growth, keeping 1 seedling every 3 to 5 cm.
- Transplant the thinned-out seedlings.
Care:
- Water generously all summer to avoid bolting.
- Adding nitrogen fertiliser in the soil, such as nettle manure, is recommended.
- Harvest the leaves progressively.
