Extremely early variety. Forms quickly, has fine foliage and a small, white spherical bulb. Best suited to areas with mild winters.
Type of soil: Light and well drained, avoid too much water.
Sowing time: From February to March and from mid-August to mid-September.
Harvest time: From April to October
Site: Full sun.
Sow directly in the ground:
- In shallow furrows that are 20cm apart, spread out the seeds every cm. Cover with soil and firm down well. Water and keep the soil moist until they come through.
- When the plants are a dozen centimeters high, thin them out keeping a plant every 15cm.
Care:
- Weed regularly.
- Water the onions sparingly.
- When the leaves start to dry out then it is time to harvest. Lift the onion gently with a fork and leave to dry in the sun for one or two days.
- You can keep your onions for several months if hung in a bunch in a dry cool place. - Related Categories
