The Red Currant is a small shrub, which is very tough. It has small currants that can be eaten fresh or cooked, they have an acidic taste. They can be used to make a jelly that is served as an accompaniment to meats...

The different varieties:
Red Currant 'Cerise Blanche': This diseases' resistant white currant produces long clusters of golden-white fruits that are harvested from the end of July. Its currants are firm, very tasty and tangy. This variety is perfect for pastries and jams.
Red Currant 'Gloire des Sablons': This diseases' resistant Pink currant produces bunches of pinkish-white fruits which are harvested mid-July. Its currants have an excellent flavour and are not very sour. Children just love them!
Red Currant 'Jonkheer Van Tets': This vigorous and diseases' resistant redcurrant produces long bunches of shiny, sweet and not very sour red currants which are harvested as soon as July and are best eaten as they are or in jellies.
Red Currant 'Versaillaise blanche': The sweet and sour white currants of the variety 'Versaillaise Blanche' are harvested as from mid-July.
Red Currant 'Versaillaise rouge': This vigorous Currant bush produces long bunches of red fruits which have a mild flavour. They are best eaten as they are or in jellies.
