The Cockspur gets its name from the shape of its flowers that resemble the crest of a cock. This small tree with its spines has large cascading coral red flowers that appear between May and August, which then turn into long brownish pods as they reach maturity. The tree is best planted in a position that is sheltered from the wind. In the coldest regions, its stems need to be cut back and straw or mulch put around its base during the winter. - Related Categories
