Properties and uses:
The small Nanking Cherry bush is fast growing and quite ornamental. The adult tree does not grow over 2 m in height and 1.50 m in width, so it can be planted in pots or directly in the garden. The Nanking Cherry adapts to all types of soils, with a preference for well-drained acidic soils.
Do not hesitate to bring in Heather earth to limey soils. As for its exposure, it is quite easy: it thrives in full sun as well as in partial shade. In early spring, a multitude of white flowers with a pink heart will bloom on the branches, well before the budding of the leaves.
The flowers are very melliferous and attract insects and bees in the garden.
Later in summer, small white fruits appear on the branches. They are edible, and their flesh is sweet and tasty. They are often used to make jams or fruit purées, and they can also be eaten right off the tree!
The Nanking Cherry bush offers many surprises with its spring blossoming and summer fruit. It does not need any pruning, but it can be shaped easily. As for any plantation, we advise you to spread mulch at its foot and to add organic fertiliser every year in autumn.
Plant them now: the shortest way to your plate is through your garden!
