    Description : Bicolour Japanese Camellia

  • Geographic origins: Hybrid, Japan, China, Korea.
Adult dimensions: Height up to 1,5 metre, width up to 1 metre.
    Foliage: Evergreen, dark green.
Type of soil: Not chalky and well drained.
    Hardiness: Hardy to -14°C.
Exposure: Partial shade or full sun, sheltered from cold winds.

    Properties and uses:
The bicolored Japanese Camellia stands out for its luminous, pure white flowers delicately streaked with bright pink. It is the ideal shrub to enliven and brighten up shady areas of the garden or terrace as early as the start of spring.
    • Unique bicolored blooms: The contrast between white and pink creates a striking visual display from February to April.
    • Year-round decorative foliage: As an evergreen, it remains dense and attractive throughout the year. Its thick, glossy green leaves capture and reflect even the faintest light.
    • Perfect for shade: It thrives in partial shade or full shade and can be planted as a standalone specimen or in a bed alongside other acid-loving plants (such as azaleas or rhododendrons). It also looks stunning in a pot or planter on a balcony, or trained against a trellis or wall.

    Several varieties are available:
Japanese Camellia ‘Chameleon’: features geometric blooms with overlapping petals and a tight, closed center. The color can vary slightly from flower to flower (pink, white, or bicolored).
Japanese Camellia ‘Dainty California’: features larger, softer semi-double flowers that open to reveal golden stamens.
