Geographic Origin: Originates from Japan.
Adult size: 1 to 2 m. in height.
Diameter of cane: 0,4 to 1 cm.

Properties and uses:
The name represents the "design on a chess board" and this pattern can be seen on the bamboo's leaves. Its leaves are patched with cream, they are big, being up to 50cm long and 8cm wide. The canes are flattened around the knots. The persistent sheaths are a light beige colour. It has a weeping and cascading form. It grows in diffuse clumps.
The 'Albostriata' is happy anywhere, it is hardy and it is recommended for planting under trees. It can also be grown in borders, groups or in a planter. It is also very tolerant of rocky soils.
