    Description : Bamboo Moso

  • Geographic Origin: China; it is one of Asia’s most common varieties. Can also be found in Japan.
Adult size: Height up to 10 to 16m.
Diameter of cane: 5 to 20 cm.
    Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Moist and deep. Does not like excessive chalk. Not adapted to pots.
    Exposure: Sun.
    Hardiness: -18°C.
    Root development: Run

    Properties and uses:
The culms are dark green and covered with soft hairs. The canes can turn yellow or even black (as a tiger’s fur). You can notice some ‘lashes’ on the young culm shoots. The green leaves hang down like a waterfall.
We advise you to plant them in a large group. This bamboo prefers deep, humus rich soil and is not adapted to growing in pots. It is also better to protect it from cold winds. This bamboo is not easy to grow and should be reserved for expert gardeners.
The young shoots are delicious, and one of its other names is “Phyllostachys Edulis” which comes from the English word ‘edible’. The Phyllostachys Pubescens or Phyllostachys Heterocycla was introduced in France in 1875 by Dr. Hénon of Geneva. It is one of Europe’s most impressive bamboos. For collectors.
