Geographic origins: South Africa.

Foliage: deciduous.
Type of soil: rich and moist, marshland.
Climate: not hardy (remove the bulbs from the ground over winter).
Position: Full sun.
Characteristics and uses:
The crimson Calla, also called Arum Lily, is a tuberous plant with a shiny green foliage and a delicately scented, crimson-red blossom. The flowers are excellent as cut flowers.
The bulbs are planted in the spring. They must be grown in very damp soil even marshy conditions because they need a lot of water and risk loosing their leaves if the soil is too dry.
In areas with mild winters, the callas can be kept in the soil if they are covered with a good layer of vegetal mulch.
