Properties and uses:
The Common box is a slow growing plant that lives a very long time. Its lemon yellowy bark with its fine grain is actively sought by wood turners and woodcutters.
It has been used a great deal during the 17th and 18th centuries in "French Gardens".
The Common box allows the creation of very dense hedges easy to maintain at a given height and make their owners proud. To keep the density of a Common Box hedge, it is necessary to prune it twice a year: once at the beginning of autumn, once at the end of spring. If left unpruned, the Common Box has a tendency to grow too tall and become sparse. Choose preferably a cloudy day or indeed after a rainy day to prune.
The Common Box can be pruned into conical, pyramidal or ball shapes (topiary art).
Regardless of its shape, it will be a focal point in your entrance or your garden. It has become an undisputed specimen for balconies decoration.
The Common Box is one of those plants that can be given as present all year round and never goes out of fashion. -
